While the rules are open to debate, the BGA rules state that if a player trows a 1, 4, or 5, they get an extra turn. In cases where a forward move is not possible, a player must move backwards. Since there is no definitive source for the rules, it may just be easier to make the rule that if a player's stone moves backwards, they end their turn... :)
