The current rule is the mainstream variant of Mahjong in Japan, and there are another variant of rule which reduce some of the random factor, called "A-Rule".
"A-Rule" work like normal Japanese Mahjong, but IPPATSU, kan-dora, red-dora, and ura-dora won't be applied. "A-Rule" are used in some major Mahjong competition in Japan. Hope "A-rule" can become one of the game setting option. Thank you. -

I seem to have misplaced the link I had that was listing the differences between many of the common rule sets (including several variants of rules used in competitive play in Japan). Maybe you can post a link to the specific rule set you have in mind? Then I can evaluate feasibility better.
The red Dora you can turn on/off already.

Thank you for your reply.
This is the link of 競技ルール(competition rule, A.K.A. "A-rule"):

However this is in Japanese only, hope it can help.

So I guess on this list you are referring to the JPML A rule set.
From what I can tell, the elements that are not currently selectable on BGA are:
- Any Ura-Dora and Kan-Dora tiles do not count as Han.
==> Here I would need some clarification. I am assuming that even though the Dora tiles do not count toward the score, everything else about the wall (10 Dora indicator tiles, dead wall, etc) is the same. Is this correct? And does this mean that the bottom 5 Dora indicators are never revealed?
If it is so, then this is relatively easy to implement.
- In case of competing tile calls that are not Ron (Pon/Kan vs Chi), timing matters (currently, Pon/Kan always take precedence).
==> This is not really that suitable for BGA, especially given that it is incompatible with turn-based play, so I will not add it.
- Green dragon (Hatsu) required for all-greens Yakuman (Ryuuiisou)
==> This is very rarely relevant but easy to implement. Not sure it's worth it.
- When in Riichi, forming a concealed Kan is not allowed if it changes the hand's Yaku (current implementation allows it, as do most rule sets)
==> I am struggling to understand when this is relevant. Riichi fixes the waits and there are very few Yaku that would upgrade one's Yaku (one example would be forming the 3rd Kan for Sankantsu?).
- Ippatsu does not exist
==> This is relatively easy to make an option.
- Swap calling (Kuikae) is only for the claimed tile (not for the other end of a Chi).
==> This is relatively easy to make an option (off, soft, hard).
- Stacked Yakuman
==> This is barely ever relevant due to the extremely low probabilities. It was discussed as a suggestion here before. Very unlikely to happen.
- Some minor Fu differences
==> I am not sure I understand them completely.
Maybe you can clarify the for me the Dora issue, then I can have a look.
Thanks,
gilthe
Thank you again, hope the follow sharing might help:

--------->Yes, when Ura-Dora and Kan-Dora do not count, dora indicator won't be revealed after Kan, or Ron/Tsumo after Richi.
****
- Green dragon (Hatsu) required for all-greens Yakuman (Ryuuiisou)
==> This is very rarely relevant but easy to implement. Not sure it's worth it.
----------> Yakuman is so rare, and it's a minor part of the game, maybe skip this part is ok.
****

==> I am struggling to understand when this is relevant. Riichi fixes the waits and there are very few Yaku that would upgrade one's Yaku (one example would be forming the 3rd Kan for Sankantsu?).
--------->There are some rare situation, for example a riichi hand like this:
bamboo: 111 222 333 circle 8 999
This can be claimed as "īpeikō + junchan " or "sūankō" depends on which tile drawn or played, concealed Kan may affect the Yaku, but still can Ron for 7 of circle.
IMO, this variation may be too harsh and complicated, and not really common at all.
****
- Some minor Fu differences
==> I am not sure I understand them completely.
---------> minor Fu differences are :
1. for those player at East round east seat, when using East as the wait's pair, it will count 2/4 Fu
(same situation for south round south seat as well)
2. Rinshan Kaihō count extra 0/2 Fu
This is too minor that doesn't affect the calculation
Thank for your reply and bring Mahjong to BGA
Thanks,
Mike
Therefore, I will wait for those.
I'll close this one as "implemented" even though only one element of it was actually implemented. You can reopen a new suggestion (just reference this one) but it would have to gather some traction before I consider it due to that aforementioned difficulty with existing tables.
Thanks,
gilthe
