Several of the background colors were flickering lighter and darker all game. It always happened when scrolling, and often happened when not as well (but not always). I have other games of Earth on the go, and it’s not happening in any of these games.

I have no idea what causes this. Two things that you could try:
1) There is an option beside the player panel for "Dark background". Could you try disabling it?
2) Maybe try another browser?
