Saint Petersburg (or Sankt Petersburg in German) is a well-made success story above all. The game is based on what has made Alhambra, San Juan or other similar games successful: each player plays on their own with few interactions and neat components.
The game has won many awards, all around the world, and has been very popular amongst players ever since.
In Saint Petersburg, you're developing the city at the beginning of the 18th century, with craftsmen, constructions and nobles to manage. A true German-style game, i.e. mechanics are really the heart of the game.
The game is split into several rounds, each of which is composed of virtually similar phases, the cards changing for each phase.
Basically, you place cards face up on the board, and either buy one, take one from your hand (a reservation), put one from your hand on your own board, and pay the cost or pass. So 4 possible actions. Easy.
Except that, cards are rather expensive and money quickly becomes scarce. Knowing that for all similar cards the cost decreases, and that the remaining cards in the next round will cost one less. So the game holds a certain "push your luck" flavor: you buy right away, you reserve or you wait until it becomes cheaper.
Some cards will bring money, depending on the phase, and others will bring victory points. It's all about making the right investment choices at the right time.
In the end, the rules are extremely clear, well explained and very fluid. You don't have to wait between turns, even at 5 players.

San Petersburgo (o Sankt Petersburg en alemán) es sobre todo una historia de éxito bien hecha.
El juego se basa en lo que ha hecho que Alhambra, San Juan u otros juegos similares tengan éxito: cada jugador juega por su cuenta con pocas interacciones y buenos componentes.
El juego ha ganado muchos premios en todo el mundo y desde entonces ha sido muy popular entre los jugadores.
En San Petersburgo, estás desarrollando la ciudad a principios del siglo XVIII, administrando artesanos, construcciones y nobles.
Un verdadero juego al estilo alemán, es decir,
las mecánicas son realmente el corazón del juego.
El juego se divide en varias rondas, cada una de las cuales se compone de fases prácticamente similares, y las cartas cambian para cada fase.
Básicamente, colocas las cartas boca arriba en el tablero y compras una, tomas una de tu mano (una reserva), colocas una de tu mano en tu propio tablero y pagas el coste o pasas.
Esas son las 4 acciones posibles.
Fácil.
Excepto que, las cartas son bastante caras y el dinero escasea rápidamente.
Sabiendo que para todas las cartas similares el coste disminuye y que las cartas restantes en la próxima ronda costarán uno menos.
Así que el juego tiene un cierto sabor a "tienta a tu suerte": compras de inmediato, reservas o esperas hasta que sea más barato.
Algunas cartas proporcionarán dinero, dependiendo de la fase, mientras que otras darán puntos de victoria.
Se trata de tomar las decisiones de inversión correctas en el momento adecuado.
Al final, las reglas son extremadamente claras, bien explicadas y muy fluidas.
No tienes que esperar entre turnos, incluso con 5 jugadores.
